Cartomanabí Joins Smurfit Westrock: A Milestone for a Macarbox Greenfield Project
We are proud to see that Cartomanabí, a corrugated packaging company located in Montecristi, Ecuador 🌎, has been acquired by Smurfit Westrock.
In 2020, Cartomanabí became our third Greenfield project 🟢 — a type of project where a complete industrial operation is built from the ground up, starting with an empty site and developing everything from the plant concept and layout to the installation and commissioning of the production equipment.
The facility was equipped with a complete corrugator line and three Flexo Folder Gluers:
1️⃣ COR 350–2500
2️⃣ FFG 970–2400
3️⃣ FFG 1300–2800 (x2)
Today, the plant has the capacity to produce more than 50,000 tons per year, serving key sectors such as agriculture, proteins, FMCG, and industrial markets across Ecuador.
Seeing a global leader like Smurfit Westrock recognize the value of this operation makes us incredibly proud. Projects like this go far beyond machinery installations — they become milestones that demonstrate what can be achieved through collaboration, engineering expertise, and long-term vision.
The Cartomanabí project will always hold a special place for us. In many ways, it feels like watching one of our own grow and reach the next stage.
Congratulations to the entire Cartomanabí team and to Smurfit Westrock on this important step for the future of corrugated packaging in the region.
